Reduciner’s technology offers a new opportunity to convert captured carbon dioxide into syngas, which can be further processed with renewable hydrogen to develop new low-carbon solutions. Cefmof Hydrogen sees significant potential in the technology to expand the use of hydrogen and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Cefmof Hydrogen aims to promote the adoption of hydrogen and identify new practical applications for it. The company operates Finland’s first hydrogen refuelling station in Jyväskylä and is building its own hydrogen production unit in the area. Beyond mobility, hydrogen can also be used as a raw material and as part of various industrial processes, where renewable hydrogen can replace fossil-based raw materials and contribute to carbon circularity.

Reduciner develops electrified technology that converts captured carbon dioxide and biobased carbon feedstocks into synthesis gas and activated carbon. Synthesis gas consists mainly of carbon monoxide and hydrogen and can be used as a feedstock in various industrial processes. From Cefmof Hydrogen’s perspective, a particularly interesting opportunity is to combine Reduciner’s technology with renewable hydrogen and jointly explore what new applications and low-carbon solutions this could enable.

“Alongside the development of hydrogen production and infrastructure, we need concrete applications where hydrogen can create new value. In Reduciner’s technology, we see a new and interesting opportunity to combine renewable hydrogen with captured carbon dioxide and utilise them in developing new solutions. Together with Reduciner, we want to explore what possibilities this could open for the use of hydrogen and for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The joint pilot starting in Jyväskylä is the first concrete step in this work,” says Lauri Perämäki, Managing Director of Cefmof Hydrogen Oy.

Investment deepens the ongoing cooperation

Cefmof Hydrogen is investing EUR 1.5 million in Reduciner and will become a shareholder in the company through the investment. Cefmof Hydrogen’s primary focus is not on startup investments, but in this case the company sees significant potential in Reduciner’s technology and in combining it with renewable hydrogen. The investment supports the further development and commercialisation of Reduciner’s technology and deepens the companies’ ongoing cooperation.

“Cefmof Hydrogen is a very good partner for us, as the company is building hydrogen production capacity and actively developing new applications for hydrogen. Through our collaboration, we can explore in concrete terms how syngas produced with Reduciner’s technology can be further processed using renewable hydrogen and what new applications this could enable. The investment strengthens our ability to continue developing and commercialising our technology, while the collaboration brings us valuable expertise in hydrogen and its value chains,” says Johanna Grönroos, CEO and Co-Founder of Reduciner.

Jyväskylä pilot puts the cooperation into practice

Reduciner, Mustankorkea and Cefmof Hydrogen are preparing a methanation pilot in connection with the research and development centre to be established in Jyväskylä. The pilot is intended to utilise biogenic carbon dioxide generated in Mustankorkea’s biogas production together with hydrogen produced by Cefmof Hydrogen in Jyväskylä to produce synthetic methane. The first tests are scheduled to begin in 2027.

Reduciner is preparing to scale its technology towards industrial scale and is planning its first one-megawatt continuous pilot plant in Ranua.

“Reduciner has progressed rapidly from technology development towards piloting and commercialisation. Cefmof Hydrogen’s involvement brings the company not only a new investor but also a partner with practical expertise in hydrogen production, infrastructure and the development of new applications. This strengthens Reduciner’s ability to advance its technology towards industrial-scale solutions,” says Juha Lindfors, Chairman of the Board of Reduciner and Partner at Lifeline Ventures.

In its first funding round in May 2026, Reduciner raised a total of EUR 3.6 million in equity investment from Lifeline Ventures, Voima Ventures and the Mikko Kodisoja Foundation. In connection with the same funding round, VTT transferred rights to use the technology and intellectual property to the company as an in-kind investment.

Cefmof Hydrogen Oy and Finnish climate technology company Reduciner are deepening their cooperation to develop new applications for hydrogen.
